Structural adhesive has high strength (compressive strength > 65mpa, steel steel tensile bonding strength > 30MPa, shear strength > 18Mpa), can bear large load, and is resistant to aging, fatigue and corrosion. It has stable performance in the expected life, and is suitable for the bonding of strong structural parts. Non structural adhesive has low strength and poor durability. It can only be used for bonding, sealing and fixing of ordinary and temporary properties, and can not be used for bonding of structural parts.

Among the main technical indexes of silicone weatherproof sealant, sag, extrudability and surface dry time are the characteristics of construction performance, while displacement capacity and mass loss rate are the main characteristics of cured weatherproof sealant. The mass loss rate of weather resistant adhesive is similar to that of structural adhesive. The performance change of weatherproof adhesive after long-term use is mainly investigated. The higher the mass loss rate is, the more serious the performance degradation after long-term use.
Due to the change of sealing plate width, the main deformation of sealant is caused by the change of temperature. This requires the weather resistant adhesive to have a good ability to withstand the displacement of the joint, and it will not crack under the condition of enduring the change of the joint width for a long time. This performance is called the displacement ability of the weather resistant adhesive, which is different from the "displacement bearing ability" of the structural adhesive.
