Alkyl glycosides are used in laundry detergents to produce rich and delicate foam.

Alkyl polyglycosides are white powder, the actual product is cream or light yellow, it has no obvious melting point. It is soluble in water 'ethylene glycol' pyridine, but insoluble in general organic solvents. The solubility in water decreases with the increase of alkyl chain length and increases with the increase of degree of polymerization. Therefore, the solubility at room temperature is high and has no effect on the application. The water solubility is produced by the hydrogen bond formed by multiple hydroxyl groups on sugar, and the interaction of hydroxyl groups in water is quite different from that of alcohol ether bond in water, So there is no cloud point and dilute gel as non-ionic surfactant.

Alkyl polyglycoside

1) foam properties: foaming properties are between anionic and non-ionic surfactants, which can be high and low, but the foam is fine and stable. After comparing the foam structure, it is found that the bubbles are irregular polygons, big and unstable, and the foam layer is thin and dry, while the foam is small, showing a hexagonal structure similar to the benzene ring structure, and the foam layer is moist, so it is stable and smooth. The alkyl chain length has a high carbon content, and its foam performance is also related to the R value. However, the regularity of this relationship has not been found yet.

2) Detergency: the detergency increases with the increase of alkyl chain. When the carbon number is, the detergency value reaches a large value, and then decreases rapidly. This is because the solubility in water is very small, which does not mean that the detergency is poor.

3) viscosity increasing: it has the function of increasing viscosity, and the viscosity increasing ability of monoglycoside can even be compared with the commonly used tackifier alkanolamide. When alkanolamide is used, it may produce nitrosamines, so it has broad prospects as nitrogen free tackifier. Experiments have proved that when used as a formula component, it is no longer necessary to use tackifier, and has no adverse effect on foam.

In the series of alkyl glycosides, alkyl glycosides as a non-ionic surfactant are particularly effective in removing oily dirt. Alkyl polyglycosides have the following advantages when used in laundry detergent

It can produce rich and delicate bubbles. Because of these delicate bubbles, the friction of clothing, especially fine clothing, such as wool and silk products in washing machine, is reduced, which is beneficial to fabric protection.

② Suitable for cold water washing.

③ It reduces the irritancy of detergent. The washing agent with alkyl glycosides can effectively remove soil and oil stains, and has softness, antistatic and shrinkable properties, and can be used normally in hard water.
