Polyether surfactant can significantly reduce the surface tension of glaze paste
2021-03-03 09:20:43

Due to the action of mechanical force, ceramic glaze slurry will produce a large number of bubbles, which can easily cause glaze defects, such as pores, shrinkage glaze, orange glaze and so on.

Polyether surfactants can significantly reduce the surface tension of glaze paste, and can enter the foam bilayer membrane, resulting in partial decrease of the surface tension in the film, while the remaining part of the film still maintains a large surface tension, resulting in uneven surface tension of the film and ultimately breaking the foam. Fluorinated surfactants are commonly used.

Alkyl polyglycoside

The properties of glaze paste are mainly related to particle size, density, viscosity, high temperature fluidity and glaze color. In the firing process, the smaller the grain of glaze, the easier the glaze is to melt, which can reduce the firing temperature and improve the gloss of glaze. Large particles larger than 120 μ m directly affect the enamel structure.

The viscosity of glaze slurry is too small, the resistance of intermolecular movement is small, the suspension of glaze is poor, and it is easy to precipitate, so that the glaze slurry is not uniform, the glaze surface is not easy to absorb, the glaze is easy to flow, and the glaze is easy to shrink after burning. However, the viscosity is too high, the fluidity is poor, the glaze slurry is easy to be discontinuous, the ripple is generated, the porosity in the body is difficult to migrate, and it is not easy to close the pores on the glaze in time, resulting in pinhole defects. Surfactant can effectively adjust the fluidity of glaze slurry.

Cationic surfactants can adsorb on the cell wall of microorganisms, destroy some enzymes in the cell wall, react with proteins, affect the normal metabolic process of microorganisms, and lead to the death of microorganisms. Therefore, cationic surfactants are widely used as antiseptic fungicides for glaze paste. Cationic surfactants are mainly quaternary ammonium salt and quaternary phosphorus salt, such as dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (jieermiao), dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (xinjieermiao), etc.
