Solubilization of oil stains by surfactant micelles
2022-09-21 17:03:40

The solubilization of oily soils by surfactant micelles may be an important mechanism for the removal of small amounts of liquid soils from solid surfaces. Various organic substances that are insoluble in water are added and dissolved in different parts of the micelle due to their different properties to form a transparent and stable solution.

Alkyl glycosides

Non-polar oil stains are added and dissolved in the non-polar core of the micelle, while polar oil stains are added and dissolved in the polar group region of the micelle shell according to their different polar sizes and molecular structures, or the polarity of the oil stain molecules. The base is anchored on the surface of the micelle, while the non-polar hydrocarbon chains are inserted into the core of the micelle. Therefore, the solubilization effect of removing oil stains actually means that the oil stains are dissolved in the washing liquid, so that the oil stains cannot be deposited on the surface of the object again, and the washing effect is greatly improved.

The impact of surfactants on food safety can mainly include two aspects. On the one hand, the surfactant itself is enriched in animals and plants, and as the food chain accumulates in the human body, it exhibits its own toxicity and causes harm to the human body; the other On the one hand, the presence of surfactants accelerates the absorption of other toxic substances by plants, resulting in harm to the safe production of food.

Many studies have shown that surfactants, like pesticides, organic pollution and heavy metals, can be absorbed by passive plants and enter the food chain cycle. Among them, the enrichment of surfactants in aquatic animals is remarkable, and with the transmission of the biological chain, it can finally enter the human body. Therefore, it is particularly important to strengthen the protection of water bodies and the safety monitoring of water body quality.

The adsorption of surfactants on dirt and on the surface of washed items (from solution) has an important influence on the washing action. This effect is mainly due to the change of the interface and surface in various properties (such as mechanical, electrical and chemical properties) due to adsorption.
