With the development of leather industry and the continuous emergence of new processes, new technologies and new materials, the application scope of surfactants is also increasing and expanding. At present, the surfactants used in leather making are mainly anionic and cationic, while the application of cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, fluorine and silicon surfactants of advanced alkyl amine salts and quaternary amine salts also has a further trend.

Surfactant degreasing, also known as emulsion degreasing, is an important degreasing method. It also has the functions of decontamination, solubilization and washing. In the past, anionic surfactants such as sodium alkyl sulfonate were commonly used to degrease in combination with alkaline substances such as soda ash, or polyoxyethylene type non-ionic surfactants were used to degrease in softening and pickling processes.

At present, several non anionic surfactants are commonly used to degrease. Such products include eusapon s of BASF, coreltol se of TFL Derui, etc. In addition, Baymol AN Liquid of Tetrapol DAL and Bayer of BASF can emulsify natural fat into a stable emulsion and remove it in the subsequent washing process. However, the disadvantage of surfactant degreasing is that the degreasing is not deep.

The new products currently developed have been improved in this regard. The latest development in this field is the degreaser which combines the advantages of solvent degreasing and emulsion degreasing. Xq2df degreasing agent developed by Li Xiaorui combines the advantages of solvent type and water-soluble degreasing, and combines organic solvents with non-ionic and anionic materials. It has deep and efficient degreasing effect and can remove fibrous stroma.

Surfactants are used in almost all wet processing and finishing processes in leather production to improve the processing effect. The research shows that the performance of surfactants depends on the role of molecular structure and application environment. The influence of molecular structure on properties is obvious, and the application environment is mainly reflected in the compounding and application technology of surfactants. Therefore, understanding the structure of surfactants and their application in leather production is of great significance for rational use of surfactants, promoting leather production and process reform, and improving product quality.
